Lifeforms_m series is a microbiological investigation into the invisible life inhabiting both human and urban bodies.
During my artist residency in Košice, I collected samples from the city’s air, the water of the Hornad river, the soil of the Bankov forest, as well as from my own skin, and cultivated them on agar to reveal the microorganisms living within these different environments. I then combined microscopic images of the cultures with photographs of their original habitats, creating a series of photographic montages in which the microscopic and macroscopic scales overlap. The work considers the body and the city as porous, living ecosystems—spaces continually inhabited, transformed and cohabited by microorganisms.
Special thanks to Zuzana Bártová (Slovak Academy of Sciences) for her assistance in the microscopic imaging.
