microgardens

summer art & ecology camp

Csepel, Hungary, 2020

In collaboration with Krisztina Varga

During the week-long summer art camp kids were familiarized with the idea of permaculture in a series of artistic activities, with the aim of widening their perspectives and understanding of nature, and bringing them closer to alternative ways of food production even within the city, their homes or school environment.

We played various games that helped to direct our attention to our natural and built environment and its creatures, built edible huts, bug hotels and lizzard camps, carved protective totems, did daily gardening activities, and documented every single step and activity in our diary. The days were full of thought-provoking conversations,  cheerful laughter, and what I call agrofitness.

At the end of the week, each kid could bring home their own microgarden and nurture the seeds of the art camp, in all possible meanings.
